The film makes the powerful case that Netanyahu’s alliance with the far-right fringe of Israeli politics, which has culminated in his grotesque compulsion to extend the war in Gaza with no end in sight, has been essentially motivated by his attempt to evade the charges against him.
It’s a Saturday-night epic of tony escapism. But is it great? A movie to love the way that some of us love "Gladiator"? No and no. It’s ultimately a mere shadow of that movie. But it’s just diverting enough to justify its existence.
The century-old silent footage in "Endurance" has been revamped with a respect for its verisimilitude. I do wish, though, that the movie hadn’t mixed in re-enactments. It’s better to let us imagine what we can’t see. But what we do see in "Endurance" is quietly staggering.
